Rimless Eyeglass Frames
Rimless eyeglass frames are simply 'no frames' holding the lenses.

Half rimless eyeglasses have a frame over the top part of the lens, and a line holding up the bottom.

A light frame is certainly more comfortable to the eye as well as to the nose-bridge.

These frames come in three pieces (two temples and one bridge piece) and are held together by the lenses.

So what happens that the lenses themselves become a part of the frame structure, and hence they must be rough and rugged to withstand this extra tampering!

Plastic goes out of question, then.
Polycarbonate, Trivex, or high index lenses must be used for such a purpose.
